The city of Udaipur is Udaipur is a vision in white and presents a spectacular kaleidoscope of narrow lanes flanked by bright stalls, gardens, lakes, palaces and temples. City Palace complex towers over the Pichola Lake and is actually a conglomeration of buildings added by various Maharanis. Maharana Uday Singh started the construction of the palace but succeeding Maharanas added several palaces and structures to the complex retaining a surprising uniformity to the design. The palace is surmounted by balconies, towers and cupolas and there are wonderful views over the lake and the city from the upper terrace.

The Lake Palace is perhaps one of the most spectacular parts of Udaipur that shimmers like a jewel on the Lake Pichola. It is the finest example of its architectural and cultural explosion. The palace is located on the Jag Niwas Island and covers the whole of 1.5 hectare of the island in the middle of the Pichola Lake. Jag Niwas, built by Maharana Jagat Singh in 1743, was the summer residence of the princes of Mewar. Today it has been converted into a magnificent luxury hotel.
