Taj Mahal is located at the north end of a formal garden on a bank of Yamuna River. It consists of a mosque and a guesthouse that are built with red sandstone. The main structure is surrounded by 4 minarets and houses the tombs of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan: both the real and the decorative ones. The marble structure rests on a raised platform of red sandstone. The approach to the Taj down the scenic walkway through the formal garden or Charbagh gives it a majestic appearance.
